UPDATE FROM
ANAMBRA: The
Governorship
Battle Begins
The battle line is drawn
among the 5 major
contestants in the very
keen contest to replace
the outgoing governor of
Anambra State, Mr. Peter
Obi, by February next yea,
2013.
The top men are Chris
Ngige of All Progressives
Congress, APC; Willie
Obiano of the All
Progressives Grand
Alliance, APGA; Tony
Nwoye of Peoples
Democratic Party, PDP;
Ifeanyi Ubah of Labour
Party, LP, and Godwin
Ezeemo of Progressive
Peoples Alliance, PPA.
Below are the issues
playing out...
According to
Vanguard's VINCENT
UJUMADU, Obiano and
Nwoye are from Anambra
North senatorial zone, the
only area that has not
produced the governor
since Anambra State was
created in 1991, while
Ubah and Ezeemo are
from Anambra South.
Ngige is the only
candidate from Anambra
Central and the reason
politicians from the zone
did not seek the highest
political office in the state
this time around is
because by the time
Governor Peter Obi
completes his tenure next
year, Anambra Central
would have occupied the
seat for 11 years (eight
years by Obi and three
years by Ngige).
For the South senatorial
zone, the four governors
they had produced
namely, Dr.
Chukwuemeka Ezeife, Dr.
Chinwoke Mbadinuju, Dr.
Andy Uba and Mrs. Virgy
Etiaba, have jointly
occupied the Government
House for about six years.
Therefore, for Saturday’s
election, issues that will
be on the front burner
include the zone of the
candidates, the political
godfathers behind them,
their closeness with the
churches, programmes in
their manifestoes and
their antecedents, among
other considerations.
Anambra North (Obiano
and Nwoye)
The emergence of the two
candidates from a zone
noted for delivering bloc
votes during elections is a
source of concern to
stakeholders from the
area. When Nwoye and
Prince Nicholas
Ukachukwu from Anambra
South were engaged in a
legal battle for the ticket
of the PDP, many people
from Anambra North
somehow prayed that the
area should not be made
to face the problem of
splitting their votes
between him (Nwoye) and
Obiano. So, when Nwoye
eventually won at the
Supreme Court, the reality
starred them in the face.
On Saturday, the two, who
are in fact from the same
local government
(Anambra East, may have
to decide whether to go
for one person or vote
according to their political
leanings in which case
there will be the inevitable
splitting of votes in the
area. It was gathered as
of press time that
prominent people from the
area are still putting
heads together to resolve
the issue before the
election.
But if the two candidates
split the votes in the four
local government areas of
Anambra East, Anambra
West, Ayamelum and Oyi
which is the area
popularly known as
Omambala, whoever gets
the upper hand in the
other three local
government areas that
complete the zone
namely, Onitsha North,
Onitsha South and
Ogbaru, will carry the day
in the zone.
For the two candidates,
their performance in
Anambra Central will be
determined by the
personality of Governor
Peter Obi, who is totally in
charge of Anaocha and
Njikoka, two local
governments that can be
described as no go areas
for other politicians, in
which case, they have
become Obiano territory.
In Dunukofia, where
Prince Arthur Eze, the
billionaire sponsor of
Nwoye comes from, other
parties may try, but it is
PDP that will likely carry
the day. Awka North and
Awka South will likely be
shared among Obiano,
Ngige, Nwoye and Ubah in
that order. In Idemili North
and Idemili South, Ngige
will get the majority any
day, although the
influence of Senator Annie
Okonkwo, who abandoned
Ngige after he was
initially named his
campaign director general,
should not be underrated.
Okonkwo has already
pitched tent with Nwoye
and another advantage
Nwoye has is the massive
support from the youths,
who have already stormed
Anambra State ahead of
the election.
In the South senatorial
zone, with the position of
the Uba family still
unclear and with the loss
of the PDP ticket by
Prince Nicholas
Ukachukwu, the area will
be for grabs for the
candidates, although
Nnewi North and
Ekwusigo are very likely
to go to Ifeanyi Ubah,
Also, Obiano, Ubah and
Nwoye are also going to
make impact in Ihiala
local government. Ihiala, it
should be recalled, used
to be the traditional PDP
area, but it changed
during the second tenure
election of Governor Obi
in 2010, when the people
decided to vote for APGA
because of what the
governor did in the area.
This time, many
prominent people in the
area are said to be
supporting Obiano. For
Orumba North and
Orumba South, what will
determine the candidates’
performance is their effort
to sell their programmes.
Ezeemo is from Aguata
local government, but
whether he would be able
to stamp his authority
there and in other local
government areas in the
zone will be seen on
Election Day.
Powers behind the
candidates
APC – Senator Ngige , on
his own, is popular among
Anambra people, having
been in government at a
time the state was in dire
need for good leadership.
For this election, his
backers are the governors
of the APC states who
want to use the Anambra
election to prove that the
party is prepared to take
over the country after the
2015 election.
APGA – Unarguably ,
Governor Obi is the power
behind the candidate of
APGA. His performance in
the state in the past seven
and half years in all parts
of the state is the selling
point for the APGA
campaign.
Obi has mixed the
campaigns with the
commissioning of projects
and the flagging off of
new ones, including the
equipment of educational
and health institutions.
With the statement by
Obiano that he will
continue with the projects
started by Obi, there is no
doubt in anybody’s mind
that it is the same
government and if Obiano
can govern the way Obi is
doing if he wins, then the
state is on the part of
rapid development
because Obi has laid a
solid foundation for taking
the state to the next level.
With government
machinery at his disposal,
Obiano is having an easy
campaign and with his
academic excellence
which has been sold to
the electorate, he is the
candidate to beat.
PDP- Comrade Nwoye’s
campaign is being backed
by the oil magnet, Prince
Arthur Eze. Eze has said
that it is his desire to
ensure that Nwoye
becomes the next
governor of Anambra
State. The prince has
consistently said that his
interest is not what he
would benefit from
government because God
has already blessed him,
adding that his main
concern is to ensure that
a humble person like
Nwoye is in charge of
Anambra State.
LP- Ifeanyi Ubah is a very
wealth person who said
he does not need to
enrich himself any longer
through public office. His
reason for seeking to
govern the state, he said,
is to help the less
privileged persons and
thousands of youths
roaming the streets in
search of jobs.
PPA- Ezeemo too has no
godfather and he is
enjoying the wealth he
acquired abroad. He was
even said to be the
person funding the APC
before he fell apart with
the leaders of the party
over the ticket of the party
for the governorship
election in Anambra State.
Role of church
The church is playing a
major role in this election.
Remarkably, the four most
popular candidates,
Nwoye, Obiano, Ngige and
Ubah belong to the
Catholic Church and they
have been wooing the
church for support.
The clergy also appear to
be divided over who to
support, but there are
indications that the
bishops may direct the
priests on who to support
among the four persons
vying for the exalted
office. As expected, the
candidates have been
making mouth watering
donations to the various
churches to solicit their
support.
Police arrest 180 thugs
with weapons
Meanwhile, reports
reaching LEADERSHIP
suggest that the
Anambra poll may yet be
marred by violence: the
Imo State police
command yesterday
arrested about 180
armed hoodlums
carrying fake voter
cards, official identity
cards of the Independent
National Electoral
Commission (INEC), and
independent observer
identity cards.
The suspected bandits,
who were said to be
heading for Anambra
State ahead of
tomorrow’s governorship
election, confessed that
they were coming from
Osun State before they
were arrested around
7:30pm by the crack
team of the Imo State
police command in a
hotel in Owerri, while
waiting to link their
contact persons in
Anambra State.
According to the police,
items recovered from
them include two pump-
action rifles, live
ammunition rounds, 15
buses and other
incriminating materials.
The suspects could not
mention the political
party they were hired to
work for, even as
LEADERSHIP gathered
that they were paid over
N50 million to rig the
elections in favour of one
of the candidates.
Parading the suspects,
the commissioner of
police, Muhammad
Katsina, warned that the
state would no longer be
used as breeding ground
for criminal activities,
stressing that those
arrested would face the
law.
Katsina said that the
heavily armed hoodlums
were in the state to
cause breach of the
peace, and that the
operation against
miscreants would
continue without
hindrance.
One of the suspects who
identified himself as
Salawo Ayodele said
that they were members
of Justice and Equity
Organisation and were
hired to monitor the
election in Anambra
State.
Ayodele revealed that
they were paid N10,000
each.

SUSPECTED members of
Boko Haram
have carried out a series of
night attacks in
Borno State causing havoc
and killing 26 people
in the process.
This was even as reports
emerged that the
insurgents abducted a
French Roman Catholic,
Georges Vandenbeusch in
northern Cameroon.
Vandenbeusch, who moved
to the area two
years ago, was reported to
have repeatedly
ignored warnings by the
French authorities
that the region was
dangerous. The Boko
Haram insurgents in Bdagu,
Izge, Hartsa and
Yazza villages in Gwoza,
Damboa and Askira-
Uba Local Government
Areas of Borno State,
ransacked houses and
killed their victims just
as several hundreds were
displaced from their
houses. About 40 houses
were said to have
been set ablaze.
An unconfirmed report said
that three of the
attackers were also killed
when some
neighbouring villages of
Dille, Lassa among
others mobilized and
pursued the fleeing
suspected terrorists to a
nearby bush in the
area.
A source said in Bdagu
Community that the
attackers had between
Monday and
Wednesday, this week
stormed the affected
villages in two Hilux
vehicles, three buses and
about 30 motorcycles
armed with AK47 rifles,
and going from house to
house to kill, loot and
burning some selected
homes.
It was said that during the
Bdagu night attack,
about 40 residential houses
and farmlands were
burnt down by the sect
members.

Tragedy has struck Bible
Mount Zion Baptist
Church in Georgia where
the senior pastor, Rev
Teddy Parker, a man who
preaches against suicide,
took his own life in his
room while his wife and
other members of the
church were waiting for
him at the church
auditorium.
Before he killed himself,
his members say Pastor
Parker had complained
about his disconnection
with God in an unusual
way that was troubling
him...
" I try to pray but I
don’t feel like God is
hearing me,” Pastor
Parker had told his
congregation. “I try
to serve but I don’t
feel like God is using
me. And there are
times in your life
when God purposely
withdraws from you,
he doesn’t withdraw
for the sake of
leaving you but he
withdraws so you
can grow and
mature.”
According to investigation,
Pastor Parker went into
his room at the end of
First Service on Sunday
where he is said to have
shot himself in the head
with his own gun,
unknown to his family
and others in church.
After they waited for long,
some senior members of
the church went to look
for him but met his
lifeless body.
“I’m very surprised
because he didn’t preach
that. He preached totally
against it. It’s something
that the congregation
don’t really understand,” a
church member, Russell
Rowland, told the Post.
What could have pushed
a pastor to take his own
life? This world is really a
mystery!
When Maria Butzki, a
mother of two daughters,
left her husband Paul for
another man, she didn’t
realise how much she’d
miss him. At the same
time, she couldn’t imagine
living without her new
lover Peter Gruman. So
when the two men struck
up an extraordinary
friendship, she came up
with her perfect solution
and moved Peter into the
family home in Barking,
East London.
Maria says: “The
three of us never
share a bed.
Although I have a
sexual relationship
with each man, that
side is kept very
private. If Paul is
out, then Peter and I
might make love, and
vice-versa . But both
men turn a blind eye
and we never
discuss it with one
another.”
Now Maria, 33, Paul, 37,
their two children, Laura,
16, and Amy, 12, and
Peter, 36, live as one big
happy family.
“People might think it’s
weird but I love both men
and couldn’t choose
between them,” says
Maria, a housing liaison
officer. “When I left Paul
there was a huge hole in
my life. But the thought of
never seeing Peter again
was heartbreaking. So
living with both men is the
only way.”
Incredibly, the men agree.
Paul, a railway assessor,
says: “Peter is a great
guy. When Maria first had
the affair with him I was
just heartbroken. But as I
got to know him, I
realised we have so much
in common . We both
adore fishing, and he’s
like a surrogate dad to the
kids.”
Peter, a construction site
manager, adds: “We all
get on so well. It doesn’t
feel as if I’m sharing
Maria. There’s no
jealousy …it feels as if we
are a team .”
It was last year that they
all moved in together after
three years of Maria's to-
ing and fro-ing between
her husband and lover.
Peter sleeps on the sofa
while Paul has a room
upstairs. Maria shares a
bedroom with her eldest
daughter.
Maria was 15 when she
and Paul met at school.
After dating for two years,
she unexpectedly became
pregnant. Paul proposed
seven months into her
term and a month later
they married. Four years
after the birth of Laura,
Maria had their second
daughter Amy. But in
2006 their marriage hit a
rocky patch.
Maria says: “Paul was
out of work for six months
and it put a strain on our
relationship. The stress
led to less sex and we
grew apart. Although we
carried on with life –
cooking, cleaning, looking
after the children – we’d
lost our intimacy. The
relationship was more
brother and sister than a
couple.”
Around the same time a
new manager, Peter,
started at Maria’s
workplace.
“Someone introduced me
to Peter and when we
smiled at one another, I
could feel the chemistry
straight away,” she says.
“Until that moment, I’d
been happily married for
13 years to my childhood
sweetheart and had never
thought about being with
another man.”
Peter, who was also
married at the time,
recalls the same instant
attraction. “It was like a
bolt from the blue… love
at first sight,” he says.
Soon the pair were
meeting secretly. “We’d
meet at the local pub for
lunch,” says Maria. “One
day he put a hand on my
leg and my whole body
began trembling with
desire. I knew it was
wrong but soon we were
sleeping together.”
Their affair carried on for
a year before Paul
stumbled on messages
between them on Maria’s
phone. She managed to
convince him they were
just friends. But a few
months later her lover left
his wife and moved from
Luton, Beds, to be closer
to Maria in Barking.
“I grew even closer to
Peter,” says Maria. “Paul
had to go away on
business for a few weeks
and so Peter took the
children shopping,
spoiling them rotten with
gifts.”
But on Valentine’s Day in
2010, Maria says she
could no longer cope with
the secrecy. “I began to
feel more and more that
my future lay with Peter,”
she says. “So I confessed
my affair to Paul, and
moved out to stay with
Peter.”
Now they all live together
as husbands and wife,
and here is what Maria
said: “Ultimately the
children benefit from three
adults able to help with
school work or give them
lifts. Financially too, it
makes sense as the bills
are split three ways.”
A serious crisis is brewing
in the leadership of
Christian Association of
Nigeria, CAN, as some
members from the Niger
Delta, under the aegis of
Global Peace Relief
Initiative, led by Prophet
Jones Erue, on
Wednesday faulted Pastor
Ayo Oritsejafor, President
of the association, over
what they described as
the unacceptable
comments he made
against them.
“It is surprising that
Pst Ayo Oritsejafor,
the CAN president
will handle issues of
immense gravity and
national importance
hastily, with levity
and without
discretion. The first
and easiest thing to
know about a man is
his name; it is a pity
that the CAN
president does not
know the name of
the group of clerics
he is addressing nor
their affiliates.
“Expecting him to
have minimal
knowledge on what
they stand for, will
be tantamount to
exerting too much
pressure on his
aging gray matter.
We are begging his
aides and personal
assistants to do their
job well and stop
exposing this great
man of God to
disrepute."
It appears the groups is
making efforts to
reconcile President
Goodluck Jonathan with
Governor Amaechi and
other members of the G7,
but this did not go down
well with Pastor
Oritsejafor's group.
In a statement by Prophet
Erue, the Niger Delta
pastors described
Oritsejafor’s comment to
the effect that CAN was
apolitical, as laughable,
accusing the CAN
President of getting
involved in politics of
calumny and name
dropping. They said that
they might not be as rich
as the CAN President or
own a private jet, but
" were men of integrity ".
The statement said: “We
are disappointed that a
leader could sit and watch
his two children fight
while the rest of us suffer
only to come and
blackmail those who take
their time to seek
solutions to the crisis.”
They warned that no
amount of blackmail or
intimidation would deter
them from the noble
mission of rescuing the
country from imminent
collapse.
“These eminent clerics
and their affiliate, Global
Peace and Relief Initiative
have taken on a laudable
project of consulting
across all interest group
and stakeholders
concerning the Nigerian
project. Nigeria is the only
country we can call our
own and as fathers we
cannot fold our hands and
watch intolerance and
impunity destroy our
nation.
“To place the records
straight, we have not
made promises to any
persons and we have not
used the name of CAN,
we have an affiliate
whose mission and vision
best defines our activity.
We are noble men and do
not rail accusation on
authorities.
“It is a pity that the
handlers of the CAN
president have allowed
miscreants, to drag him
into a show of shame,
misinformed the press
and over laboured the
corporate affairs
commission with a futile
search.
“If we may ask, whose
registration were they
authenticating? A group
they barely know its
name? This is a faith
based Non Governmental
Organisation, NGO, with
memberships spread
across the nation. Our
main business is
advocacy, conflict
prevention/resolution and
facilitation of peace
projects whether
individual, group,
organisation or
government. We create a
good soil for
developmental projects
and people oriented
policies to thrive
“For the CAN president to
say CAN is apolitical is
laughable, as the same
president is involved in
politics of calumny and
name dropping. The
CAN’s statement as
reported by the media
does not represent the
facts on ground but a
mere imagination. Calling
names at this critical
period of the nation’s
political development does
not represent the
responsibility expected of
a great leader of Pastor
Ayo Oritsejeafor’s
capacity”
Pastor Oritsejafor is yet to
reacts to the group's
accusations.
Angry leaders of the
Academic Staff Union of
Universities were said to
have chased away the
Governor of Kogi State,
Idris Wada from the
emergency ward of the
Lokoja General Hospital
on Tuesday.
Wada had gone to the
hospital to visit their
injured colleague, Dr.
Ngozi Ilo, and
commiserate with them
over the death of their
former President, Prof.
Festus Iyayi, in an
accident caused by his
convoy.
"Somebody that did
not stop after his
convoy killed our
leader; somebody
that did not come to
the hospital until
some minutes to
5pm (on Tuesday)
after the accident
that happened
around 11am could
not be said to be
caring. That was
why we chased him
out of the emergency
ward of the hospital
and we also
prevented him from
seeing Prof. Iyayi’s
corpse in the
mortuary."
The ASUU leaders,
including Dr. Biodun
Ogunyemi; the Ibadan
Zonal Coordinator, Dr.
Nassir Adesola; the
Chairman, Lagos State
University chapter, Dr.
Adekunle Idris; and
lecturers chased the
governor away.
Their grouse was Gov
Wada’s late response to
the accident and the
uncaring attitude he
allegedly displayed on the
scene towards the union
leaders involved in the
accident. They also
accused him of trying to
make a political gain out
of their misfortune.
Dr Adekunnle Idris, who
confirmed that Wada was
chased out of the
emergency ward, said,
“We are surprised that a
state governor could
resort to telling lies
because contrary to the
claim by his
spokesperson that he
showed care towards our
colleagues, he did not.
“We are not happy with
the fact that he came very
late to the hospital and
the fact that when he
came, his press crew
attempted to take
photograph and video
record of Dr. Ilo, who is
our national welfare
secretary. We stopped
them because that was
the height of insensitivity.
“Somebody that could not
provide us with an
ambulance cannot be said
to be caring. We had to
call UNIBEN for an
ambulance that took Ilo to
the UNIBEN Teaching
Hospital while our
colleagues from the
Federal University, Lokoja,
with the assistance of the
vice-chancellor, gave us
the ambulance that was
used to convey the
remains of Prof. Iyayi to
Benin.”
Governor Wada latter left
the hospital in shame.
When will women learn to
be decent in their dealings
with small boys? I'm just
wondering why a woman
who in the first place
should be ashamed that
she is sleeping with a
small boy now take her
shameless act to the level
of allowing him take her
private photos? Now the
pix have leaked. See the
photos below...
Lagos-based lawyer, Mike
Ozekhom, known for
representing men who
have stolen public funds
or caught in one act of
corruption or the other,
despite the obvious
charges of corruption
against ex-Governor of
Bayelsa State, Diepreye
Alamieyeseigha, he still
defended him until Alams
finally confessed and was
convicted.
Mike Ozekhome is also
the lawyer representing
Hon Farouk Lawan who
was caught on tape
collecting a huge some of
money from businessman
Femi Otedola as bribe. So
we were not really
surprised when we got the
story that Ozekhome
struck a deal with the
guys who kidnapped him
with his son.
The good thing however is
that this time Ozekhome
entered into a deal that
enabled him to secure his
life from the den of the
dare-devil guys who
kidnapped him on August
23, 213.
The revelation is
that Ozekhome's son and
head of his chamber had
gone to secure his release
with an amount that is not
up to what the guys
demanded for, hence they
rejected the money.
The two persons who had
gone to secure
Ozekhome’s release were
said to have told the
kidnappers that they
couldn’t raise up to the
required amount and that
only their father could
raise such.
Then a deal was struck.
Ozekhome pleaded with
the kidnappers to take his
son and allow him go so
that he can raise the
money they asked for.
One week after he was
released to got the money
for his ransom, Ozekhome
paid the ransom to the
kidnappers and secured
the release of his son and
head of his chambers..
So, the truth is that
Ozekhome was not
actually released on
September 12 as the
media was made to
believe as he left their
custody about a week
earlier.
Governor Idris Wada of Kogi
State now has the notorious
reputation of having the most
reckless convoys in and around
Nigeria, as drivers working with
him are well known for
dangerous driving on the
highway.
The same Governor almost died
some months back when the car
he drove in somersaulted on
high speed on the Abuja-Lokoja
express way. Today (Tuesday),
Governor Wada's convoy
rammed into the car of former
ASUU President, Dr. Festus Iyayi
on the same express and,
unfortunately, he died instantly .
According to eyewitness report,
Dr Festus Iyayi, a well-known
Nigerian novelist and activist,
was on his way to Kano to
attend a meeting of the
Academic Staff Union of
Universities (ASUU) whose
members have been on strike
since July. The union’s meeting
in Kano was called to decide on
a possible calling off of the
strike and a return to the
classroom.
Nigerians and the academic
community will miss Dr Iyayi
greatly. He was born in 1947, in
Ugbegun, Ishan, Edo State. In
1968, he left the shores of
Nigeria to pursue higher
education, obtaining a M.Sc in
Industrial Economics from the
Kiev Institute of Economics, in
the former U.S.S.R., and his
Ph.D from the University of
Bradford, England.
In 1980, he went back to Benin
and became a lecturer in the
Department of Business
Administration at the University
of Benin.
A well known author, with four
books to his credit (Violence,
The Contract, Heroes, and
Awaiting Court Martial), Prof.
Iyayi won the Commonwealth
Prize for Literature for his book
Heroes in 1988.

When you hear that
Nigerians are running to
Ghana for education and
business, it is because
they have good and
patriotic leaders who do
not take their people for
granted as is being done
by Nigerian leaders.
As you read this, Ghana's
President John Mahama
sacked the Deputy
Minister of
Communications, Victoria
Hammah without 24 hours
after she was involved in
a scandal that is not even
close to what Stella
Oduah did to our common
wealth in Nigeria.
Ghana's president sacked
the woman for just
making a statement that
suggests corruption...
Last week, a taped
conversation that Victoria
Hammah had with
someone, in which she
allegedly said she would
not leave politics until she
had made $1m (about
N156m), leaked. And by
Friday, she was sacked
by the President to
prevent her from being
tempted to be corrupt.
According to a Punch
report, this is coming at a
time that Nigerians are
impatiently awaiting a
decisive step by President
Goodluck Jonathan over
the role of the Aviation
Minister, Stella Oduah, in
the purchase of two cars
at a mind-boggling cost
of about N255m.
Interestingly, Victoria
Hammah and Stella
Oduah are said to have
played similar active roles
in the elections of their
respective principals, but
the President of Ghana
did not allow such
sentiments to confuse
him.
"On this bulletproof
cars matter, we have
wasted a lot of time,
and we have yet to
take a decision on it.
One of the issues we
need to address is:
Were they provided
for in the budget?
Who approved the
purchase? Does the
person have the
authority to do so?
" Whoever committed
a crime in the whole
matter should be
made to face the
punishment due to
anyone in that
circumstance . The
President has
delayed too much on
the matter."
Says Obo Effanga of the
Action Aid International,
Nigeria.
The Chairman of G.U.O.
Motors Limited, Chief
Godwin Okeke, on
Monday commenced his
evidence-in-chief at an
Onitsha High Court in
Anambra State, presided
over by Justice Chudi
Nwankwo, in respect of
his abduction by
kidnappers in Onitsha on
Sunday, August 23, 2009.
Chief Okeke who spoke
under oath, shortly after
the court granted a motion
to file and serve
additional prove of
evidence with respect to
one of the suspected
kidnappers, Alexander
Onyinanya, his employee,
filed by the prosecution
counsel, Chris Ajugwe
with Mrs. N. D. Wilcox.
Below is what Chief Okeke
said about his kidnap
after Church on a Sunday
morning...
How he was abducted
Led in the evidence by his
counsel, Okeke, according
to a Vanguard report,
stated that he went for 7
a.m. service which ended
at about 10 a.m, adding
that between 10.30 and
11 a.m., his wife mounted
the steering of his Nissan
Amanda Spots Utility Van,
SUV, and was driving
towards the church gate
when suddenly, gunmen
blocked the car with a bus
in front and a Mercedes
Benz car at the rear.
Okeke told the court that
before he could ask
questions, the gunmen
started shooting
sporadically, adding that
even though he managed
to disarm one or two of
them, they shattered his
left leg, over-powered him,
drove away his wife and
family members before
bundling him into his SUV
and zoomed off with the
abductors’ vehicles
following.
He further told the court
that they passed through
Awka Road and at Limca
Road, they met a traffic
gridlock but his abductors
shot sporadically into the
air to scare the
commuters before they
continued their movement
up to Nkpor junction
where he said they met
some policemen and
exchanged fire with them.
Two vehicles snatched
He said: “At Umuoji Road,
my abductors discovered
that their tyres were
deflated during the
exchange of fire with the
policemen and they
quickly jumped out of the
vehicles, blocked the road,
snatched two other
vehicles from their
unsuspecting owners and
transferred their arms and
ammunition, including 9
AK 47 riffles, rocket
launchers, machine guns
and a big Ghana-must-go
bag filled with loaded
magazines and live
cartridges into the
snatched vehicles.
“They continued their
journey and drove through
Alor, Adazi-Ani and
Adazi-Enu. On getting to
somewhere between
Adazi-Enu and Neni
communities in Anaocha
Local Government Area of
the state, they drove into
a bungalow, rounded up
the occupants, who were
mainly children, locked
them up in one of the
rooms and kept me inside
the living room.
“I removed my shirt and
tied my bleeding leg as
part of measures to
control the blood gushing
out from the bullet wound.
At a stage, I became
thirsty and requested
them to give me water to
drink. Two of the
abductors, Emeka Eze and
Anthony Ifeanyi Okafor
were with me while others
were outside monitoring
movements.”
He said the duo with him
advised him not to drink
water because of his
bullet wound but he
insisted on drinking and
eventually they gave him
the water which he drank.
He said: “I overheard
those outside asking the
detained children where
they kept oil, salt and
other condiments because
at that point, they had
started cooking breadfruit
meal for lunch.
The third accused was my
ex-employee
He said after cooking,
they presented the food
and he ate with them. He
said among those outside,
two of them, a tall and
short one wore masks,
adding that he could
discover that the tall one,
Alexander Onyinanya, the
third accused with mask
was his former employee.
“I could identify
Onyinanya because he
limps as a result of an
accident he had when he
was working for me. I was
the one who paid his
hospital bill when he had
the accident.
I offered them N1bn,
instead of N100m
“After eating the breadfruit
meal, they praised me for
my courage and for
accepting their food,
unlike other victims who
usually refuse to eat
during their captivity.”
He said they now asked
him to get ready for
negotiation to which he
paid attention.
“They told me that Chief
Paul Okonkwor, Managing
Director of Pokobros
Group West Africa Limited
paid them N70 million as
ransom when they
kidnapped him, while
Chief Anthony Enukeme,
Managing Director of
Tonimas Oil Limited paid
them N80 million during
his own time and told me
to pay them N100 million.
“I replied them promptly
that Okonkwor and
Enukeme are millionaires,
while I am a billionaire,
and offered them N1
billion, instead of N100
million.
“The offer gave them
special joy as they now
dropped their weapons by
the side, relaxed and
asked me how and when
the money would get to
them to which I told them
that the money was in the
bank.”
At this stage, Justice
Nwankwo ordered him to
stop for the day till the
next adjourned date.
The court now adjourned
the matter to November
14, 26, 27, 28, December
2, 3, 4, 5 and 9, this year
for accelerated hearing
and possible
dispensation.
Any lady who engages in
a marathon séx with a
married man for one week
will no doubt be seen as a
cheap and loose girl. And
that is what is now
happening to Ese Walter
who became popular after
she boldly exposed her
séxual rump with Pastor
Biodun Fatoyinbo of
COZA.
She has come out to
disclose that another man,
Mr Emeka Obasi has been
disturbing her for sex and
has even threatened to
expose the said Mr Emeka
to the media. See the
revelations below...
Anyone who knows Mr
Emeka Obasi should
advise him to go and beg
Ese Walter because she
has vowed that she will
expose all his dirty séxual
runs with her and this
may not go down well
with his wife.
Nigerian striking university
lecturers, after their various
meeting on their campuses,
Monday, to discuss
President Goodluck
Jonathan's offer to end
their more than four months
old strike were
dividedagainst themselves.
According to the operating
guidelines of the Academic
Staff Union of Universities
(ASUU), the local chapters
are expected to vote on
whether they agreed with
the proposal and that the
strike should end or
whether they disapproved
and the strike should
continue.
Decisions reached on the
various campuses are to be
taken to Wednesday's
National Executive Council
(NEC) meeting, which will
take a decision after
aggregating the opinions.
Their various opinions were
divided yesterday, although
many ASUU chapters failed
to disclose their decisions.
The University of Lagos
(UNILAG), Lagos State
University (LASU),
University of Calabar
(UNICAL), Usman Dan
Fodio University, Sokoto,
Federal University of
Technology Akure (FUTA),
Federal University of
Technology Minna and
Ladoke Akintola University
of Technology (LAUTECH),
Ogbomoso chapters voted
that the strike should end.
Some of them, however,
gave conditions.
The University of Jos
(UNIJOS), the University of
Benin (UNIBEN) and the
Nasarawa State University
chapters voted that the
strike should continue.
UNIJOS chapter chairman
Dr. David Jankam said
members did not see any
substance in the dialogue
with the Federal
Government to warrant
calling off the strike.
He said, "We have just
rounded off our meeting. As
a matter of fact, our
members voted
overwhelmingly for the
continuation of the strike.
"I can also confirm to you
that five of the eight
universities that make up
the Bauchi Zone of ASUU
have also voted for
continuation of the strike,
and the general saying is
that the government has
not shown any commitment
so far.
"We started the meeting by
briefing our members on
issues resolved with the
Federal Government in the
last meeting with the
president of ASUU.
"But in responding to the
briefing, our members
observed that the main
issues that led to the strike
were not discussed at the
Aso Rock meeting.
"As such, my members said
President Jonathan is
taking them for a ride by
trying to divert attention
from the core subjects of
the strike."
Jankam went on: "I will
now convey the resolve of
our branch to our national
president at the NEC
meeting tomorrow."
Shedding light on how the
meeting will decide the
matter, he said: "If the
majority of the chapters
vote for its end, it will be
called off, but if majority of
chapters vote for
continuation, so be it."
The congress of the Union
at the Federal University of
Technology (FUT), Minna
was divided, with majority
of the members supporting
the suspension of the
action. Others would want it
suspended with some
conditions met by the
government.
The minority demanded that
in calling off the action, the
leadership of the union
should insist that no
member is victimised for his
roles in the strike. They
also insisted that
government should indicate
in the final agreement that
the 2009 agreement was
due for negotiation and the
payment of the balance of
their academic earned
allowances.
As soon as Dr. Fatai Jimoh
briefed the congress of the
outcome of the meeting
between President
Jonathan and the union, the
house was divided, with the
majority of the members
pushing for suspension.
The few dissenting voices
argued that the union
should not fall prey to the
government's ploy. They
cautioned that the union
cannot take the government
for its word, maintaining
that if the union had to
embark on a strike after
series of correspondences
and strike in 2011 that led
to the signing of a
Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) in
2012 were not honoured.
But majority of the
university teachers said the
plight of the students and
their parents should be
considered.
After an exhaustive debate,
the congress directed its
chairman to convey to the
National Executive Council
meeting holding tomorrow
at the Bayero University in
Kano that the union could
consider suspending the
action, but insisted that the
three conditions be met.
Chapter chairman Dr. Fatai
Jimoh, who initially refused
to divulge the outcome of
the congress, later said: "I
have the mandate to take
the decision of the congress
to NEC. But, if you insist to
know, majority of our
members called for the
suspension of the strike but
with the government
fulfilling three conditions.
"Don't ask me the
conditions, because we
don't want it yet in the
public domain. All I can tell
you is that the strike is still
on, until the NEC of the
union decides otherwise."
The chapter chairman also
refused to assess the
impact of the action. He
said: "As long as NEC has
not suspended the action, it
will be premature to assess
the success or otherwise of
the action. When the strike
is called off, I'll give my
candid assessment."
At Ibrahim Badamasi
Babangida University,
Lapai, ASUU chair Comrade
Yahaya Badeggi said: "The
congress at IBBU Lapai
resolved that the strike
continues until when the
National Executive Council
of the union decides
otherwise. We know they
are still negotiating. We
shall abide by the decision
of NEC."
On the gains of the action,
Badeggi said: "I make bold
to say that the action has
produced some positive
results. From the N100
billion released, our
university got N450 million.
This would not have been
so but for the strike. I
believe that at the end of
the day, the university
system will be better for it."
The following are the
decisions at the various
ASUU chapters on the
strike.
?University of Benin
(UNIBEN). Members
unanimously voted for the
strike to continue because
the Federal Government's
offer omitted some vital
segments of the 2009
agreement;
?University of Lagos
(UNILAG) teachers want
suspension of strike, but
will await further directive
from the national body after
meeting tomorrow in Kano;
?University of Calabar
(UNICAL) lecturers voted for
the suspension of the strike;
Nasarawa State University,
Keffi. ASUU chair Dr.
Theophilus Lagi, said: "I
can assure you that all
members present at the
congress today wanted the
strike to continue because
the documents from the
government failed to
address the grey areas in
contention. We believe
there is nothing practicable
in the government's offer,
even with the N200 billion it
promised to release. Before
we can suspend the strike,
all unpaid salaries of our
colleagues must be paid
and there must be solid
assurance from the
government that no
member will be victimised
after the strike is eventually
suspended;
?Ahmadu Bello University
(ABU). When the issue was
put to vote, the majority of
members wanted an end to
the strike, with the
agreement that the
government must sign a
binding document on how it
will release the N1.2 trillion
it promised to release. They
promised to abide by the
decision of the NEC in Kano;
?Delta State University
(DELSU) members want
suspension of the strike.
?Ekiti State University
(EKSU) lecturers would not
disclose the outcome of the
congress until after the NEC
meeting tomorrow;
?Ladoke Akintola University
of Technology, Ogbomoso
(LAUTECH) - The ASUU
local chairman said he
would not disclose the
outcome of the congress
but a lecturer who attended
the congress said members
were okay with the offer of
the government and wanted
the strike to end;
?Lagos State University
(LASU) chapter supports the
strike suspension.
A source who is from ASUU-
LASU executive, but
pleaded not to be
mentioned, said the chapter
only gave certain conditions
under which the strike
should be suspended.
Infidelity is gradually
becoming the order of the
day among married
woman, especially those
in entertainment and other
related sectors in Nigeria.
Few months after a
Nollywood actor's wife
was caught i a raunchy
BBM exchange scandal
with a man believed to be
a South-South governor,
another married actress
has been caught red
handed in a more
shameful act in Lagos.
A lady who know her very
well spotted her with a
businessman inside the
bar of a local hotel and
became a bit suspicious
as the man was not her
husband. The lady paid
one of the guys in the
local hotel to plant a
camera in the room they
booked and below is the
result...
I hear that the girl, who is
from Kogi State, has been
blackmailing the actress
and collecting money from
she and her secret lover.
The lady has a complete
video of them in the illicit
affair. What a shame!
32yrs old Ifeanyi Ekene
specializes in buying
stolen cars at cheap
prices and sell them for
high profit in Lagos and
other areas. He ran out of
luck recently as one of his
suppliers was arrested by
operatives of the Special
Anti-Robbery Squad in
Lagos State. They even
sold some of the stolen
vehicles to a member of
the House of Reps and a
university lecturers.
Below are Ekene's
confession on their mode
of operation...
“I am from Anambra
State, but I sell auto spare
parts in Alagbado area of
Lagos. I used to buy used
vehicles from Dubai but a
friend of mine, Ifeanyi,
who is based in Akure,
introduced me to some
people who sell cars at
cheaper prices.
“I asked if they were
armed robbers and they
said no, that they only
use master keys to open
cars and steal them. The
first car they gave me
was a Toyota Corolla
2008 model which they
sold to me for N400,000
but the market value is
about N2.5m.
“Later, they gave me three
Volkswagen Vento cars
for N350,000 each. The
market value is actually
N600,000. They sold me a
Toyota Camry 1998 model
for N300, 000. They also
gave me a Nissan
Pathfinder and a Toyota
Highlander for N700, 000
each. I made over 100 per
cent profit on each
vehicle.”
Asked how he usually
sold the car to members
of the public without
arousing suspicion, Ekene
said, “Nigeria is one of
the easiest places to sell
a stolen car. Japanese
vehicles like Toyota and
Nissan are in high
demand and they move
quickly. When the robbers
bring the vehicles, they
remove the number plate.
What I do later is to go to
Berger, give an agent
N10,000 to help me do
vehicle papers.
“A number plate costs
about N32,000 to do. If
the stolen vehicle is
engraved with the old
number, I take the vehicle
to a workshop in Ladipo
Market where a panel
beater will help me to
remove the old number.”
On his part, another
suspect, Chukwu, a car
dealer, said, “I usually go
to Benin Republic to buy
vehicles and I pay
security operatives
N35,000 to help me
smuggle the cars in
because no one stops
them on the road. It was
a friend, Uche that
introduced me to an
armed robber, Ozo, in
Lagos.
“Ozo sold a Toyota RAV4
and a Toyota Camry to
me for N200, 000 each at
that time; I did not know
he was a robber until one
day. While I was driving
with him in a car, he
came down from the
vehicle, brought out a gun
and snatched a Toyota J4
Cruiser from somebody.
That was when I knew
that he was a robber.
“At that point, I said I
wouldn’t patronise him
any more. After I had cut
ties with him, police
arrested him and he
implicated me.”
